I kept this in myself for quite a while, I think it’s about time to share the story.

In 2014, I asked a protester/livestreamer, James Bang to start accepting Bitcoin donations.

Shortly thereafter Chris Ellis helped him set up a wallet.
The Bitcoin community was generous and we threw together 3.72979341 BTC for the cause.

However James contacted me and Chris, that he slept on the street that night, he lost his phone and he did not have a wallet backup.

Later that day James in his livestream I saw he bought about a hundred boxes of dimsum and claimed it was from the Bitcoin donations, then he started giving it out to protesters.
I think he did not want to lose face and he rather spent his own money on it.

At that time I was thinking what the right course of action is, and I decided to keep silent about it and keep watching the Bitcoin address if the money moves or not. The following year I checked it every day. Today, 5 years later, the funds still did not move, so I think it is safe to say, he did not steal them.

However, the story does not end here.

A week or so ago I checked what’s the deal with him. On the one hand I found it really funny how he went from “what is Bitcoin?” to adding “Using Blockchain to solve real world problems” to his Twitter bio 🙂

On the other hand, I think he went missing. The last online activity I was able to dig up from him was on August 3, this year and Chris tried to also contact him, but he is unresponsive.
