The release of No Time to Die, the next James Bond 007 movie, has been postponed to November due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The movie is the 25th installment in the series and was originally scheduled for release in April.
However, due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the movie’s theatrical release was moved to November 12 in the UK and November 25 in the U.S.
The movie was originally slated on April 2 and April 3 in the UK and Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Croatia, Cyprus, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, Serbia, Greece, South Africa, Slovenia, and India.
It was scheduled for release on April 8 and April 10 in Australia, New Zealand, Italy, France, Belgium, Russia, Baltic states, Ukraine, Hong Kong, Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan, and all of Latin America.
Speaking about the decision, the film’s producers said:
“After careful consideration and thorough evaluation of the global theatrical marketplace, the release of No Time to Die will be postponed until November 2020. The film will be released in the U.K. on November 12, 2020, with worldwide release dates to follow, including the U.S. launch on November 25, 2020.”
Coronavirus stalls James Bond
No Time to Die is the first major Hollywood production stalled by the coronavirus pandemic resulting in closures of movie houses throughout the world.
The marketing and promotions agencies behind the movie pushed and promoted the movie several months in advance, but the decision to move the release date was based on economics.
International magazine GQ even featured Daniel Craig in its April 2020 front cover on a send-off only for MGM and Universal to announce the postponement.
Daniel Craig’s fifth time as James Bond
This will be the fifth time that English actor Daniel Craig will play the role of James Bond.
The actor initially turned down the offer, but after reading the script, he accepted the lead role for his first James Bond 007 movie Casino Royale which was released in 2006.
Craig returned with Quantum of Solace in 2008, Skyfall in 2012, and Spectre in 2015.
Overall, Bond movies starring Craig have grossed an estimated US$3.2 billion. No Time to Die is said to Craig’s last time to star in the Bond franchise.
Most expensive Bond movie
No Time to Die is said to be the most expensive Bond movie of all time, costing $250 million to produce, as reported by ScreenRant. The production was bigger than that of Spectre which had a budget of $245 million.
